Earned Autonomy: A Framework for Staged AI Automation with Deterministic Controls and Human Review
The central finding of this report is that the organizations succeeding with production AI automation are not the ones automating fastest. They are the ones who pair a deterministic control plane with probabilistic components, capture tacit process knowledge before it walks out the door, and start deliberately under-automated with strong human-in-the-loop gates that they relax only as evidence accumulates. The economics now strongly favor acting, but acting in a specific, staged way.
